- Progress towards Zero

Rotary International and Rotary Clubs around the world including the Rotary Club of Five Dock have worked tirelessly to rid the world of the polio virus.  Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of five. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

Last October, all the clubs across Sydney came together for the Train Ride for Polio team in Sydney, to raise approximately $115,000 AUD, exceeding our target of $100,000. Supported by Rotary clubs and community partners, it showed how a bold idea, well supported, can deliver remarkable outcomes.

A big thank you to everyone in the Canada Bay area who supported the various fundraisers by local Rotary Clubs to end polio - we can do this but only if we do it together.
