Prestigious Rotary ‘Sailing medals’ were presented this year to an enthusiastic group of sailors at Dobroyd Aquatic Club, Rodd Point. The award presentation followed the 2022 Rotary Classic sailing regatta held in early November.
The medals were presented to the winners by PP Alan Laughlin and Commodore Geoff Wilson. Some six classes of boats were recognised with winners for the scratch and handicap results in each division including:
- Open B Class boats, scratch and handicap.
- Taser class, scratch and handicap.
- Laser full rig and laser radial class, scratch and handicap.
- Hansa (sailability), scratch and handicap.
- Race Boards, scratch and handicap
Sarah Plunkett, a young sailor with a disability (vision impairment) continued with her international form and was among this year’s winners in the Hansa (Sailability) class.
We are proud to have supported Sarah in the past helping to fund her participation in the 2018 World Championships in Japan and wish her continued success on the waters.
We have had a long and relationship with this fabulous ‘on-the-water’ club and community facility.
The Dobroyd Point venue was refurbished as a project at the formation of our Rotary Club some 50 years ago.
More recently we have been able to provide funding for a new suit of sails with a District Grant for two boats for the Sailability division operating out of the Dobroyd Aquatic Club.
We look forward to our continued involvement with this very enthusiastic and welcoming community club.
